The Coastline

The Vistula Split’s entire coastline is characterized by flat sandy beaches that are perfect for sunbathing as well as active relaxation. Krynica Morska boasts five kilometers of seacoast within its limits. A 2.5- km long stretch of particularly fine beach has been well adapted by the city’s authorities. In the season, the holiday-makers are protected by well trained and equipped lifeguards that watch the bathing area of the sea from eight lifeguard towers.

Krynica Morska is by all means one of the most beautiful seaside resorts of the Baltic region. It is a terrific place for amateurs of active relaxation, nature-watchers and enthusiasts of historic places.

Centuries ago forests were the greatest wealth of the Vistula Spit. But soon the trees were cut down and the sandy dunes were blown inland by the wind. From that time comes “the Camel’s hump” (Wielbladzi Garb) – a 50-metre high hill created by winds and sands. In 18th century the citizens of Gdansk started planting the dunes and the interior with new trees and shrubs. This way erosion and wandering sands were stopped. But a long strip past the town of Piaski is still unprotected and open to forces of nature. In 1825 a sandstorm buried the church in Piaski and a few adjacent houses. Even in our century the sight of tree-tops hardly sticking out of sandy hills was not unusual.

But far the greatest wealth of this region is amber. Small pieces of this precious and beautiful fossil are still washed up onto the beach, especially by a stormy sea.

On the beaches of Krynica you can have fun with all your family and friends sliding down the water helter-skelters.

The beaches of Krynica are among the most beautiful in the world because of the fine white sand. In the forests that cover the area of the Spit, pine is predominant but one can also find oak, beech and spruce.

Fresh unpolluted seaside air and the pine forests constitute a specific climate that is beneficial to our health. Tourists can also restore their health thanks to the saline spring water full of unique elements that are essential to our well-being.
